Reflection Section. - How Pearl Button Was Kidnapped

 How Pearl Button Was Kidnapped.

In English, we read a story about the kidnapped of a little girl. The little girl is European. She was kidnapped by two Maori women who were walking and they saw her playing in her house of boxes. So our teacher told us to read through the story and tell us the main point about it. He told us to find out what kind of kidnapping was it because the Maori women didn't do anything to her they were just showing her around the beach and collecting shells.

English Teachers Question -

What would the European think about the kidnapping?

Were the Maori women harming her?

Is it to form a relationship between pakeha and Maori?

Critical Literacy QuestionWhy are we/you reading this text? -The story could relate to reality because if people read the story they would learn some main points where it tells us not to go with any strangers unless we know them or if they look harmless.

Reflection Section

 Effects of Drugs&Alcohol

In Health we learned about the effects of alcohol and drugs. Our teacher or advisor told us how many bad things that could happen if we continue to take drugs and alcohol. Why? Because when you are addicted to drugs or alcohol you can get in serious danger because someone might give you alcohol but you don't know what's in it may be strong drugs that you don't even know. Someone might try to force you to take it while you are drunk.

-What are the long-term and short-term effects?

Long Term Effects-

alcohol dependence, brain damage, memory loss, nerve damage, cancer, cardiovascular disease, swelling, and pain.

Short Term Effects-

blurred vision, slurred and confused speech, mood changes, thought processes, judgment, and concentration are impaired, flushing and sweating.

-What should we do if a person passes out at a party (impact for safety)?

call the ambulance, call their parents, lying them on their side against the wall, and put their knee up.

Hopefully, this text could help young people learn and know more about how to stay safe around drugs or alcohol.
